Volunteering at St Barnabas Church Centre

Volunteers are vital in so many ways.  Alongside helping the Church and Centre function effectively, volunteers bring their own character and personalities and offer fresh ideas and opinions to the life of the church.  Above all, they generously give their time freely to help and support us. We are extremely grateful to all who currently volunteer with us and to those who have helped out in the past.

 Church Volunteers

 Opportunities to be a volunteer in church may include:

  • Being a welcomer at the Sunday service

  • Doing a reading at a church service

  • Being part of a pastoral care group which offers support to others in need

  • Helping to collect food donations for the local food bank

  • Supporting youth church activities (DBS check required)

  • Standing for election to be a Churchwarden

 PCC

Our Parochial Church Council (PCC) is also made up of volunteers who are responsible for the financial affairs of the church, plus the care and maintenance of the church fabric and it’s contents.  They are effectively Trustees and work closely with the Vicar and church team.

Church Centre Volunteers

The Church Centre consists of a vibrant, busy Community Hub and conference rooms that are available to hire. The reception desk is the first point of contact for people when they arrive at St Barnabas, and we always require friendly, helpful and knowledgeable volunteers to support us in covering Reception.  Reception duties include answering the phone, guiding visitors and various administrative tasks. Other opportunities include volunteering to help clean the building and keep the churchyard safe and tidy. 

How can I sign up?

Please note that there is a volunteer application process that all potential volunteers must complete before starting a role at St Barnabas Church Centre. This is for safeguarding purposes and we will of course help you with any queries you may have at this stage.
